Description
A wonderful example of inertia: The ball just swings back and forth, and the Earth leaves it behind!
The oscillation period is about 6 seconds and the amplitude is 1.2 meters.
An electromagnet is needed to maintain the oscillations, which adds energy to the ball every time it passes through equilibrium.
It looks like the oscillation plane of the pendulum rotates during the day, but in fact – the FLOOR below the pendulum is what moves! And that is a consequence of the Earth’s rotation.
